From Public Charging to Community Charging: The Rebolt Story
When Rebolt was founded over three years ago, the EV charging landscape in South India looked very different from what it does today. The company entered the market as a pure-play public charging operator setting up chargers at commercial locations and betting on the rapid rise of electric vehicles on Indian roads. It was a logical starting point, but the team at Rebolt had their eyes on something bigger, and they weren't afraid to change course when the data pointed them in a new direction.

In late 2023, Rebolt made a decisive pivot from public charging to community charging. The insight driving it was simple but powerful: nearly 80% of EV charging happens at home. Drivers don't want to plan their day around a charging stop; they want to plug in where they live and wake up to a full battery. For apartment residents and resort guests across South India, that convenience had largely been unavailable. Rebolt saw an opportunity not just to fill that gap, but to own it - to become synonymous with EV charging in residential communities the way certain brands have come to define entire categories.
That focus has translated into remarkable growth. Today, Rebolt operates 800+ chargers across 260+ locations, including 160+ residential apartment complexes and 90+ resorts across South India. The company has grown ~4x in the last twelve months alone and sustains a consistent month-on-month growth rate of over 10%. Crucially, this expansion hasn't come at the cost of discipline. Rebolt is deliberate and calculated in how it selects locations. Every new site goes through a rigorous evaluation process, maintaining a strong focus on building a profitable, sustainable business rather than chasing scale for its own sake.
What makes Rebolt's model distinctive is its end-to-end ownership of every customer touchpoint. The company does not manufacture chargers, but everything else - sales, installation, service, support, and ongoing maintenance - is handled entirely in-house by its own team. This isn't just an operational choice but a philosophy. Keeping capabilities in-house means faster response times, tighter quality control, and a customer experience that isn't dependent on third-party vendors.
This philosophy extends fully into software. The Rebolt Mobile App, the Rebolt Host Dashboard, and the Rebolt ERP are all built and maintained internally, giving the company the agility to iterate quickly and the control to deliver a consistently high-quality experience at every level. In fact, Rebolt considers the app its core product, not the charger. The hardware enables the experience; the software defines it.
This is rooted in what Rebolt is as a company. Unlike most players in the EV charging industry who come from a hardware background, Rebolt is fundamentally a technology company. Its team of 18 and growing, and brings with them the methodologies and best practices of the tech world: data-driven decision-making, fast feedback loops, and a relentless focus on process improvement. As Rebolt scales its presence in apartments, it is building a captive base of urban EV owners to whom it can offer an expanding suite of tech-enabled services centred around their vehicles and their lives.
The ambition is clear, and so is the path: to become the name that residents across India instinctively associate with charging in their apartment complex. One community at a time.
