Role Overview
We are seeking a skilled and innovative Industrial/Product Design Engineer to join our team. This role focuses on transforming research insights into functional and visually compelling product designs across sectors, including automotive, consumer electronics, and defense. The ideal candidate will possess a robust design and technical background, coupled with a collaborative, problem-solving mindset.
Key Responsibilities
Market and User Research: Conduct comprehensive market research, user interviews, and surveys to identify customer needs, pain points, and industry trends, particularly in automotive and EV technology.
Design and Concept Development: Create innovative product designs and solutions informed by research findings. Apply design thinking to develop user-centric products, from autonomous vehicles to lithium-ion inverters and consumer electronics.
3D Modeling and Visualization: Use advanced CAD software, 3D modeling, and sketching tools to create high-quality models and detailed renderings. Produce animations and presentations to clearly communicate design concepts and functions to stakeholders.
Prototyping and BOM Management: Build and test prototypes to validate design concepts and support product development. Manage Bill of Materials (BOM) for projects, ensuring alignment with manufacturing and production capabilities.
Manufacturing and Production Knowledge: Integrate expertise in materials, sheet metal fabrication, and Color, Material, and Finish (CMF) into designs for manufacturability and efficiency.
Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with engineering, production, and marketing teams to ensure designs meet business goals, are feasible for production, and align with cost parameters. Provide detailed specifications, drawings, and part lists to support the transition from design to manufacturing.
Project Management: Oversee the design process for multiple high-stakes projects, including EV chargers, defense-related products, and consumer-centric electronics, from ideation to final production.
Required Skills and Experience
Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Product Design.
Technical Skills
Proficiency in CAD software and 3D modeling tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Rhino, KeyShot).
Skilled in sketching, rendering, and animation software (e.g., Blender, Maya) to communicate design ideas effectively.
Research and Analysis
Experience in conducting market research, user interviews, and surveys, with a strong ability to translate findings into actionable design concepts.
Industry Experience
Minimum [1 year] experience in product or industrial design, with a diverse portfolio showcasing projects like EV chargers, autonomous agricultural vehicles, and lithium-ion inverters.
Familiarity with materials selection, CMF trends, and manufacturing techniques, including BOM management and sheet metal fabrication.
Project Experience: Demonstrated experience working on complex, cross-functional projects, such as consumer electronics, defense, or high-stakes automotive solutions.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Industrial products, consumer-centric technology, or defense-related design.
Hands-on prototyping skills and practical knowledge of fabrication methods.
Familiarity with user-centered design and market research techniques.Soft Skills. Strong problem-solving abilities, with a creative and practical approach to design challenges.
Excellent communication and presentation skills, capable of clearly explaining design rationale and engaging stakeholders.
Highly collaborative, team-oriented mindset, able to work across departments to meet project deadlines and goals.
